They sold you a defective boy! LOLOL
Sorry, that struck me as funny for some reason
It's amazing to me that she managed to keep them hidden so long, but it does seem to be a smaller litter, which is nice Can't wait to see them out and about!

Re: Surprise Pregnancy! Help?
I can't tell, I know there is at least 3 broken/banded sables, and a pure white one with dark dots all over the back and head. But I think there might be more, I'm not really sure. I can't touch them yet because their eyes aren't open. Mama doesn't seem stressed when I opened the cage last night I (when I didn't know she had babies) I was filling and fixing her water bottle. She didn't seemed stressed and she didn't put her ears back and charge me when I was giving her some food and I gave her a millet spray. I'm just scared that she's going to kill and eat them. I don't know how to determine the age of the pups, and I can't post pics because their eyes aren't open! I'm freaking out! Any determining factors that would help me? They are eating solids and running around but their eyes aren't open an their ears are up.

Re: Surprise Pregnancy! Help?
Well going by the date you bought her and adding on 16 days that made it January 26th she birthed based on the fact it is usually 16 days gestation. So add 10 days to that and it makes the pups exactly 10 days old. When eyes open you can pretty much figure their age at 16 days old as that is when MOST Syrian pups open their eyes.

Re: Surprise Pregnancy! Help?
Yeah, my mom and I did the math at our mechanic shop on our huge 2 foot by 3 foot yearly calendar lol they have to be at least 10 days. I've counted 7 or 8 so far and they all look a lot like mama! I wonder what the dad looked like!

Re: Surprise Pregnancy! Help?
Good on Taz, who has taken on motherhood brilliantly and to keep them hidden for 10 days is amazing.
Also congratulations to you Emily for your calmness.
I love it when they're little babies!

I just wanted to pop on and say congrats. A huge surprise, but it sounds like Taz is a natural x

Re: Surprise Pregnancy! Help?
Ok, so I have counted 7 pups. Their eyes are still not open! The wait is killing me! lol They are going out of their huge and like tunnels and exploring up top and mama is letting the now. They are stuffing their cheeks with little crumbs and stopping up on the top of the bedding and pushing it out and nibbling on it. They are darlings. I have already come up with 8 boy names and 8 girl names just in case there is an extra I wasn't able to count. Boys:
-Bentley
-Diesel
-Dodge
-Cherokee
-Chevy
-Camaro
-Charger
-Remmington (Favorite Gun)
Girls:
-Porsche
-Salem
-Astoria
-Jeep
-Mercedes
-Alantra
-Lexus
-Jetta
My mom is letting me keep them all. And now I have at least 9 hamsters all together including Mama and Henry (my dwarf hamster.) I have tried putting carrots, broccoli and boiled egg in there and they won't even go near it and mama doesn't like it. Should she be fine on just her Hazel Hamster and Healthy Handfuls by Oxbow? The Supreme Hazel Hamster has a minimum of 18% protein.

Re: Surprise Pregnancy! Help?
That's very generous of your mum letting you keep them.
You do realise that they'll all need separate cages?
It's going to be very expensive buying all these cages.
