I walked into the room and discovered that she'd come out on her own. She panicked though and scurried into one of her hiding spots (I gave her plenty!) and it took a few minutes of coaxing and a variety of treats to bring her back out. She is a bit skittish and I can't blame her, but here she is!

Sorry for the awful pictures, I was trying to be quick and unobtrusive

Oh, and do you think it would be ok to move her yet again into a better cage? I brought her home in a little cardboard box and just put her in the first clean tank I had available. I have something that would be better but it needs a little work, I just don't want to stress her out more than she already is!

She is huge! Whether it's fat or babies I just don't know. Given her history, I'm betting on babies!

I remember someone here describing a pregnant female as looking like she swallowed a golf ball and she looks like that!

Whatever she swallowed, it was bigger than a golf ball!

Not in the least! I'm going to have a heck of a time finding homes for them. Going to ask around at local rescues and my vet so they know some babies will likely be available. I was just so appalled that they would post a "must go tonight" ad so late in the evening. I'm not kidding, the ad went up after 6pm

Got a question! She's very kindly built her nest in such a way that I can see straight in through the side of the tank to where she's sleeping. I can easily see her breathing, will I be able to tell if she's pregnant by looking for kicking? With chinchillas it's obvious and not a bit frightening because the babies come out fully formed and ready to run and they spend the last few weeks of the pregnancy literally exercising their limbs in the womb. It's like something out of a horror movie (think Aliens) but are hamster babies big enough and active enough to visibly stretch and kick?
