Default not sure if albino or not

Hi, this isn't really a breeding question as such but we have had our little hamster for two days and I'm not sure if he is albino or not?

I don't think he can be but he does have pinkish eyes which is why I'm confused.

He is 9 weeks old a syrian and long haired, he has dark pink eyes a lot of white fur but with very light brown fur too. His brother on the other hand had pink eyes and long white fur and his other siblings had either white or same colouring as him but short haired.

Is it normal to have pinkish eyes but not be completely white furred?
Is it a problem for him?
How come you get long haired and short haired hamsters in the same litter?

Thanks for your help, I love this forum!

Default Re: not sure if albino or not

If he has any coloured fur he is not a true albino. There is a gene in hamsters (cd) which if the hamster get's two copies of it will be white however it is still a coloured animal underneath and the colour pigment of the underneath genetic colour shows up on the ears.
A dominant spot animal also can show with a lot of white and very few spots of colour.
Lots of hammies have pink eyes. Any colour containing two copies of the cinnamon gene will be red eyed.
Sometimes the colour takes a while to show through depending on what it is.
Do you have any pics of your hammy we can look at.
