Default Please help with my mom hamster !!!!!

Today I moved a wheel with the nest three babies and a mom to a new cage (I connect the wheel to the cage).

Now she doesn't leave the other wheel on the new cage and doesn't return to the babies. She's like this for around 15 min.

What should I do ??

EDIT: I opened the part of the new cage with the wheel and removed the wheel. She is still exploring the new cage with the tubes and didn't returned to the nest, yet. 25mn have passed, now :/

EDIT2: Ok. She returned to the wheel with the nest. Sorry for the panic :S

Haha, glad it worked out. What type and how old are the babies?

11 days.

I gaved some cucumber today to them (throw little pieces inside the nest without touching it while mom was exploring the rest of the cage) thanks to advise of a member here. They need to drink and since they won't leave the nest inside the wheel... :/

It would be good if they were out of that stinky wheel but I will wait 4 more days for them to open their eyes

By then, I will remove them with a spoon, if they don't leave the nest... It really needs to be clean (I will put a part of the nest within the big cage I have now to "go with the scent").

I just heard the babies now making little screams ^_^ From time to time, I hear them So good to know their are ok inside the nest.

Hello NunoTaborda. The babies will drink when they are ready. Right now mama is still nursing them, so they don't need water. Don't disturb the nest, they will do it on their own. Before you know it, they'll be out exploring everywhere

Giving the cucumber is good as this will give them fluid till they start to come out on their own. If they are eating and not getting fluids they can get bloat which is why I suggested it so I would keep up with additional veg for now. At 12 days they will be feeding on dry food and this needs supplemented by wet stuff. In the wild mum would bring in veg material and maybe some insects for the pups.
Because your pups are not coming out for wet food - our litters would be out around 10 days at a platter of wet food, then you need to ensure they are getting some fluids. Here's hoping they move out soon and stop nesting in the wheel! It's lucky you only have 3 and not 11 in there!!

Ok. They are still nesting in the wheel :/

The cage is like this now:

W = Wheel
t = Tube
H = Habitrail cages
A = where the water is

tttHHHHHHHttHHH
t
t
t
Wt
t
t
t
ttttHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHttttA

I tried to make her move to another place yeasterday night... I opened a part of the cage that has a hole for nesting (the bigger habitrail cage that is in the end of the draw I made above) and putted there tissue and other stuff needed for making a nest.

What she did? Covered the hole and the nesting stuff with substrate :S I opened the cage today again on that same spot and putted away that extra substrate... When I was back, she covered the hole again. Lol

So, don't know what else to do to make her move the nest away from the wheel.

The pups are now 15 days old and have their eyes opened (are always running away to explore the cage and the tubes). There is one that have the eyes opened but not completely, yet, so maybe I will wait one more day before doing anything.

I'm thinking on, when the mom is away in the other side of the cage (, I would remove the wheel, put carefully the pups and a part of the old nest where the bigger habitrail cage is with the water.

What do you think?

If they are in and out the wheel still just leave them too it! They must be OK if they have got this far and very soon they will be just too big to fit in there! It's only a couple of weeks more till they need separated from mum anyway so you will be able to sort everything out then. Still best not risk anything yet!

Ok, then.

By Friday, I should take some pictures and share with you all

5 weeks is the minimum before separating them from the mom, right? And I should wait one more week if they aren't fully developed, right?

No separate from mum at 4 weeks. Keep them in a two cages one for boys and one for girls but separate from mum.
at 5 - 6 weeks they can go to their own homes where they must have one cage per hamster and they must not be allowed to meet or have playtimes together again once they are separate in case they fight.

Really? I though we should never separate Syrian hamsters from the mum before the 5th week :S

So, after the 4 week, they are going to their new home...
