Default Female not coming into heat?

I have been breeding Syrian hamsters for over two years now as a hobby breeder in my area. I haven't come across this issue before but my new female has not come into heat for a week now. I check every night between 10-12pm, but still no results. I contacted the person I bought her from but claims there wasn't any males in her cage. She is around 4 months old currently so her age isn't an issue for her to stop coming into heat.

Has anyone else ran across this problem before?

Default Re: Female not coming into heat?

Ocassionally a female will only come into heat for a very short time frame, often in the wee hours of the morning. I remember reading a while back on another hamster forum about someone's girl who only went on heat around 3am and only for 1-2 hours.

I've not had much of an issue with this myself though I've had two girls who didn't come into heat between 11 and midnight. I just tried again in the morning between 5-7am and they took.

Maybe just try staying up a bit later or getting up a bit earlier and you might catch her at the right time. If you choose to try in the morning then make sure it's when she's still awake - if she's gone back to her nest then it highly unlikely she's in heat.
