Default *Help* could my hamster be pregnant?

Summer my Syrian girl has got out of her cage (project Syrian cages thread), and let my boy Sunny out of his cage as well. They were in each others cages when I found them, they could have been loose together for just over an hour and a half. There's no marks on either of them so they haven't fought. What are the chances she's pregnant or not? Goddammit I'm so annoyed with myself.

Anyone??? Forgot to say, Summer is about a year old now, incase it makes any difference. I don't know if she was in heat or not, I've never seen her freeze or anything since I've had her and I hold her every single night. When would anything show? sorry, but I don't have much breeding knowledge as I never thought I'd need it, and I'm a bit panicked now about the whole thing.

Aww Wobbles don't blame yourself accidents happen! I believe it's only after a few days (maybe a week?) that the pregnancy can start showing. Until proved otherwise, assume she is pregnant and treat her as such. Lots of soft fresh nesting material and more protein for now. If she is pregnant, you might have a litter in about 16 days from now.

Good luck Wobbles xx

Well Wobbles, if she is pregnant, you've got all of us to help, so don't panic. Since you are a good hammy mom, she's in good health already. Cowgirlskipper and Cupcake are so right. Look at the breeding pages so you'll know what foods are good for her now. And, just as Wobbles stated, accidents do happen. Just to be on the safe side, you want to act as if she's pregnant until you're sure she isn't. That's because, if she is, you want the babies to be as healthy as possible, and for Summer to be in good shape as she can be. Being a mommy hammy is rough work. But even after all this info, she may not be pregnant, and she'll just be getting extra special treatment for a little over 2 weeks. My Syrian had 16 babies and did very well with them. I really didn't have to do anything except make sure she had food and fresh water every day. She did all the work. I got to have all the fun watching the babies. I've had enough hammy escapes to know how you feel. All we can do it be careful and get into the habit of checking the cage every single time you leave the house. Let the countdown begin!!!

Thank you guys for the advice I'll feed her up then for the next couple of weeks, just in case. I am absolutely kicking myself for this. If she is pregnant, babies would be due on 25th, my birthday

You should've made it clear to her that although it was your birthday soon she didn't have to get you anything xD

I'm sure everything will be fine though, just lots of extra treats for her
As far as i'm aware some don't tend to show until a few days before the pups are born. Also I think her nipples can become more prominent so they could help with determining.

If I have read this right, from other threads, Dr KMcK's avatar is of a hammy within only a couple of days of producing 16 pups!! They hide them very well unfortunately

I thought Laurel might have got pregnant at one time when her and Hardy did a joint escape and disappeared to the most remote part of my living room for a frolic! lol (I swear they had planned it as she got out of her ball at exactly the time I saw him loosen his final tube and leap for freedom).

I fed her more protein etc and she started to "show", or so I thought, but either it was a phantom pregnancy or I just fed her far too well as she got bingo wings and child bearing hips! lol

Good luck. I am sure it will be okay no matter what happens...these hammies are determined to worry us aren't they?

Just had a thought, would a satin LH BEC and a SH cinnamon produce eyeless whites? Please tell me they wouldn't, I couldn't stand that. I let Sunny out last night for his usual run, and he went straight to Summer, going crazy and trying to mount her, so I think its fair to say if he did that on Thursday night, they've had a bit of a dalliance in that hour and a half. Especially as they weren't even trying to fight in any way.

the best thing is to keep calm and just give your hammie special care.(at least i hope so because i am not an expert and have never bred any hammies)
plus give both of them lots of T.L.C

keep calm and good luck
