Coat type on some babies??
Hi everyone!
Soooo...I have a couple questions on the coat of some of my hamsters. The mom was a Golden shorthaired, dad was BEC shorthaired - I have 5 (out of 16) babies with alot more FLUFF to their coat then the others. (4boys/1girl) 3 are BEC and 2 are Golden.
So - by looking at these pics - are they really 'long haired' or just 'fuzzier then normal'?? I can only assume that BOTH mom and dad have to have a recessive LH gene in them that I was not aware of til now - correct??
I thought that LH was 'longer'??
I attached some pics so you can see the difference - the females coat is the shortest of the bunch and one of the boys is REALLY fuzzy compared to the others.

Yes, they're longhaired (I only looked at 2 of the photos). These are pups, they're hair isn't going to be super long yet. If you keep any, you'll see their coat change and develop as they age and throughout their lives. Males will have longer hair than females.

Thanks for the feedback and 'Shiny' thanks for the compliment on the babies! Perhaps I should post more pics with their faces?? lol I was trying to just capture the hair length difference so I have alot of 'bottoms' in the pictures.
I am sooo excited to have long hair hamsters in the group! Such a lovely surprise!!

Re: Coat type on some babies??
Definately 5 long hair - three BEC and 2 Golden. They all 'poofed' up so nicely this past week.
Out of the 30 babies - I only have 5 left that still need homes. I had been holding them for a couple people, but they cancelled/backed out of adopting them. The others have definate confirmations and will start going to new homes this weekend.
The 5 boys will get to hang out here with me - I have extra cages in case I have to keep them awhile...but I am sure somebody will come scoop them up soon!

If only I had room. I would seriously be at your door! You're only about six hours from me, which isn't ACTUALLY that much...
Now I'm making plans in my head and I should probably accept that I am at hamster capacity! :S
