Re: The Halls - Hugh x Halle
Update to this thread on Day 24: These are apparently Magic Colour Changing Hamsters!
The cinntort and the golden are still the same, but we now have *two* BEC Roan boys with orange heads and white bums! The remaining "Yellow" boy and "Honey" girl still have pale undersides, coloured backs and white cheek flashes but are also starting to look a bit more apricot-coloured than the bright pastel yellow they have been until now so I am deeply suspicious that they are suddenly going to turn into (be revealed as) a BEC and a REC, or even more Roans.
I'm a little confused about what this says about their genetics - initially I was expecting them all to be: a e p(p) (To)To/Y (Wh)wh ll (and also some have a random 'b', but that wouldn't affect anything) - so gold/gold tort, cinn/cinntort, yellow or honey, some with white bellies. If Hugh has an "e" as well then that totally explains BEC, REC and Roans of both of those Cream-based shades, which is fine - but if all the "Yellow/Honey" pups turn out to be Creams in the end, I'm firstly confused if Halle was a Tort or not (there was a 50% chance she was but if she had had Yellow or Honey pups this would have confirmed it) and also where the crescents/pale underbelly-coloured back pattern I've been seeing in at least two boys and the girl up to now came from? All four of the now-possibly-cream pups were the lemon/pastel-yellow shade of unisex baby clothes/Easter decorations (as pictured in the photo of the Honey earlier on this thread) on day 16, the first BEC Roan changed to white and apricot on day 18 after not having shown much agouti-type patterning ever, but the second BEC Roan was faintly patterned on day 20 (which you can see in the photo here - the bottom left one was already changed and the top left one was turning) and noticeably changed by day 22 after having had a white underside, crescents and a yellow back.
Could the first BEC Roan be: a ee p toY Whwh ll
and the second be: a ee p ToY Whwh ll ? Would that explain the difference in their initial colouring? If the remaining Yellow turns out to be plain BEC in another few days would that make him likely to be: a ee p ToY ll, along the same lines?
Mostly I'm just curious but I'm also obviously quite keen not to pass on a "ToY" boy hamster that actually has no To gene and is not capable of creating torts to a buyer who would like that feature (the girl has to be Toto at minimum due to her ToY father and tort sister).
