silly question, doing a hard boiled egg for the hamster, but unsure how to serve it up or how much to put in with its regular food. As I dont want the hamster to take a load of egg into the nest and have it going bad while the pups are still in there.

I've never tried hard boiled egg ... Maybe mash a little up and put it in her bowl?

Just mush it up like a scrambled egg so there's no massive pieces

A whole egg is probably a bit excessive too, so you could give her a bit and keep the rest in the fridge to last a few days - find out how much she likes it

well I did a bit of a corse mash, just about a teaspoon worth for now on top of a fresh full bowl of hamster food. It seemed to do down well and will hopefully help the pups development if they are still in the nest and ok as still no sound from them but not getting to concerned yet as mother seems to be filling up on food and water so probably not done away with them or all of them as there does seem to be a steady attention to her food bowl and a wander round the cage before going back in her nest.

I wouldn't recommend taking them back to the petshop, if they couldn't sex yours or it's litter mates, then your babies may end up pregnant too and someone else will be in your position. As the babies were from an unexpected litter you will be welcome to post them for homing in the rescue section of hamster central if you would like to

The mother is called Charlie, the daughter named her so guess she is stuck with it lol. A strange colour to in all honesty, a kind of grey of different shades sort of colour. Has slightly mouse like ears than typical hamster like ears but was told it is a Syrian by the pet shop as they did say the breed them themselfs.

Will try and get a pic of the mother up at some point when we get the chance to take 1 because as said never really seen 1 with shades of grey before and might be interesting to get some feedback or info on the background of the colour if possible.

If the mother is spending a lot of time in the nest then the pups are probably just fine

Mother hamsters bury their babies which is actually a good thing because it helps their respitory system develop normally. Make sure that you do not have "fluffy bedding" or cider shavings in the cage as this can be very dangerous for hamsters! Good luck!

Not sure what is meant by "fluffy bedding" or "cider shavings" ?. We are simply using what we always have and that's the soft hamster bedding from the pet shop even if a cheap brand and soft wood shavings\sawdust also from the pet shop.

I assume that's fine as it does say on the packaging for hamsters and small animals etc?.

Fluffy bedding is the stuff that looks and feels like cotton wool. I'm not sure what cider shavings are ...
