I hardly slept at all last night, I was so worried. I've put Bruce and Sylvester in opposite corners of my bedroom as I was a bit worried that if their cages were next to each other, the different scents or baby squeaks might upset the other nest. Am I being totally paranoid now??

It was a nightmare trying to get ready for work this morning without disturbing anyone. I've even stopped wearing perfume/using body lotion in case the scent confuses them - and so they definitely know its me when I replenish their food and water.

I've no idea how many babies Sylvester's had. I convinced myself last night that they were probably dead but I laid on the floor next to her cage this morning and I could hear some tiny squeaks. Thank God!!! They're in a Savic Rody so I doubt I'll see much of this litter for quite some time.

As for Bruce, two of the babies came out of the nest briefly last night just as I got into bed. One of them did a pretty good job on managing some rice pudding! I don't think their eyes are open yet buy I always have the dimmer light on because of them so it was too dark to tell. I've now convinced myself that there are only two babies since its a good 6 days since I've seen more than 2.

This is turning me into a paranoid freak!

Justine, please stop panicking and calm down

At the end of the day there really is nothing you can do at this early stage - nature will decide what is best and everything will work out fot the best

All of my cages are next to each other and i have two litters at the moment in two separate cages and they dont seem to mind about the other squeaks - i bet they cant even hear them , lol - too tuned in to their own babies' squeaks!!

Just enjoy the new babies, lol!

Good Luck and just let me know if you need any info.

Kind Regards,

Tammy x

I know exactly where you are coming from, Justine (you should have seen me the other night when I thought Molly was smothering/burying her litter ).

There really isn't anything any of us can do for newborn babies though - I've decided I'll go mad if I continue to freak out so I'm not doing it anymore! I've been far more relaxed the past couple of days and I'm actually enjoying the whole incredible experience now.

Doing normal everyday things is unlikley to bother the mums at all. A great many hamsters are "disturbed" in the nest because they are accidental litters, some make it, some don't - if yours are still here this morning, which it sounds like, then I'm sure they'll be fine.

Can't wait to see them!

Thanks Tammy and Julie. I feel calmer now. Your reassurance has helped a lot.

In a way I'm actually quite pleased about both litters as Bruce's babies were born on my birthday (which is also the anniversary of my aunt's death - who I was very close to) and yesterday for Sylvester's babies was the anniversary of my Mum's death (both my Mum and her sister died from breast cancer). It seems quite appropriate that some new life has been created on those two days.

I'm so glad you feel calmer, Justine, I'm sure you are doing brilliantly for your very special new arrivals. It does seem amazing that they were both born on days of such significance to you.

I still can't get used to mums called Bruce and Sylvester though :P

Sorry to hear about another unexpected litter, it's just lucky that they have you

This post has actually got me a bit worried about my pair of supposed females, hopefully I won't have a similar surprise

Tell me about it! I have 4 7.5 week old robos boys that I adopted from P@H earlier this week and they're living with Arnie, my older robo (who is definitely male!!). If all 4 turn out to be girls, it doesn't bear thinking about.

I got my pair from there too

I'm taking them to Brockholes so hopefully there should be someone there to help me sex them, to be honest I haven't even attempted sexing them as I'm lucky to catch them
