Re: *WARNING* "Think Before You Breed" Video
Thank you everyone for all of your kind words and comments. If anyone does want to link the video then it is perfectly fine, the more people who see it the better. And STF you should absolutly do a video on Snickers, I dont know that much about cushings so it would be wonderful to watch, and if it helps raise awareness it would be an amazing thing for her to have left behind.

Brilliant for raising awareness!
I feel very passionately against hybrid breeding after seeing what Treo has been through. I completely agree, for all the healthy hybrids born, its not worth the risk for the ones that aren't so lucky.

I'll have to do some research on how to make a video.
I must have Windows Movie Maker somewhere.

Oh Erin, that was so beautifully done.
It broke my heart seeing that, and knowing people out there are still doing this.
Hopefully this will raise awareness!
Pippy is a very lucky ham to have an owner so caring and who doesn't give up on her x

Well mainly the fact that he is disabled by his missing back leg. His mobility is getting worse and worse.
But also the disability has led to him having skin problems and he occasionally suffers from mites.
Hes acted like an old man since he was about 6 months old

Do you think it's common thing with 3 legged hamsters FM?
Bailey can't itch with the stump so I often massage him with my nails.

Hehe I used movie maker for mine! I spend a lot of time working with videos and movie creators though so I guess I was at a bit of an advantage.
And thank you LM!
Edit I just saw your post FM. Poor Treo Kiku and Jenís half siblings/cousins were born deformed with 3 legs or stumps for feet because the parents and grandparents were inbred. Poor little mites all of them.

Re: *WARNING* "Think Before You Breed" Video
Poor girl
Her story really is heartbreaking, we've got hybrids now and knew of some health risks, but we never imagined a hamster having to go through things like this. If I'd thought I'd have realised it was possible due to bad breeding but I'd never thought about it enough.
Knowing there are potential problems is why none of our current hamsters will ever be bred though, we'd like to breed one day and are waiting until we're sure its the right time, we have proof of the heritage of the animals involved and we know we can either rehome or keep 20 offspring (the logic being that if we assume there'll be 20 we're less likely to risk running out of homes for anyone). Right now we meet none of those criteria, so we won't be breeding anytime soon.
She's lucky she's got an owner like you who can try and help her through this. Poor, poor girl...
