Re: i need sleep!
short answer, No.
Hamsters will be up when they feel like it and hey are naturally nocturnal so you can't blame them.
I know its fustrating when they are noisy (i have 3 in my bedroom )
What you can do is make sure Patches has a quiet wheel and if he starts to bar chew then move him into a tank style cage. Or move him out of your room at night.
But i have found giving them a nice long run in thge ball or floortime calms them down and settles them a bit
(i've often given them floortime at 2-3 in the moring, the joys of a dedicated hammy mom )

Re: i need sleep!
I had to take a quieter wheel, and i have also earplugs from the pharmacy (really cheap, a little bit useful) in case he is running just when i want to sleep.
There is really no way to switch their shifts

Re: i need sleep!
LOL they are like nocturnal XD
even though all my hams have silent wheels they then go chewing like mad on their bars! that is why they have now moved out of my room and into the like spare room at the other side of the house XD

Re: i need sleep!
Hamsters are crepuscular, meaning they are most active at dawn and dusk, when they are less likely to be hunted by predators. This is a natural instinct in them, and you shouldn't attempt to alter it. Just like you wouldn't attempt to change their burrowing, foraging, or stashing food instincts. It will just make them cranky, confused, and uncomfortable.
My suggestion would be a quieter wheel, or move the hamster's cage elsewhere. Even the silent spinners tend to rattle the whole cage and can still make noise, though, so really moving them to a room where they won't bother anybody is probably best. Don't take the wheel out. That will make them cranky and confused as well. (Plus full of energy!)
