Stroppy new hamster
Hey, this has to be my 5th hamster, and never before have I come across such a fiesty one!
He's just arrived home today (got him for P@H) and everytime I go near his cage he starts panicing and hissing
I've let him be for the time being, will see if he's settled down tomorrow
Will he lose his fear of me?

Re: Stroppy new hamster
With gentle taming and hadleing in time and hard work he should do yes, if he is hissing like that he is very frightened at the moment. Leave him for a couple of days to get used to his new cage and I would start as simply as just talking gently to him through the bars. P@h hamsters have very little if any human contact before they are sold, some seem to be better than others, but with work you can tame him.
Have a look at the wiki for some great taming tips from Souffles Custard Hamstery.

Thanks for the advice!
I guess I just panicked a little cos I've never come across a hamster like this (probably cos the others weren't from P@H!)
Will post an update and possibly pictures later tonigh if he comes out of hiding
Here's the best I got atm

Re: Stroppy new hamster
Shall I move his cage into my room?
He's in the spare room at the mo, thought I'd move him so he can adjust quicker to different sounds

Re: Stroppy new hamster
Our hamsters live in the living room but when we first get them we put them in the bedroom overnight for the first few nights to get used to us.

So my theory makes sense!
He still freezes, and retreats to his hidey corner when I approach his cage, but the hissing has stopped
