Stroppy new hamster

when i first got snowy she was the msot nervous hamster ever the first day she just sat in her food bowl or day and night not moving
and a couple of days later she just walked on to my hand
i've had like 2 or 3 bites off her but she's still getting better
starting to trust her a bit more
but yeah my point wasl ol that itm ay just take awhile but it'll happen just don't give up =]

did not know that P@H hamsters were not used to human contact, how come? Every one always says that today all hamsters are handled from when they are pups. BUt then it would explain why my robos are quite diffident!!

Robos are naturally more quick and jumpy than any other ham, they are naturally shy a fearfull of human contact. They take a lot of work to become tame - but it can be done!

Not sure about P@H hams being handled . . . depends on the staff and the management I suppose, to how much the prioritise taming and handling.

I know for sure my Little Mo was never handled - she was terrified when the assistant went to get her, so she had to be scooped into a box. She was swuaking so much I thought she was going to have a heart attack, poor little girl!

P.S she then went on to be the tamest, most charasmatic little hamster I had ever met, so the impossible is possible!

It was the same with Phoebe Shazzy, the lady took ages to get her into the carry case because she 'didnt want to touch her incase she bit' - nice eh?!

But she has turned into a wonderful hammy and a right cheeky madam too! It took a couple of weeks intensive taming in the bath tub but we got there - and just for the record she never has bit me or anyone else thats had a little cuddle.

yeh, i had to pick bear up myself because the girl was so nervous- same for gizmo. They are not handled sadly.

Tbh when i get a new ham i leave them totally alone for at least 48 hours and then just gradually begin talking and letting them get used to my smell.

You got to remember all the stress these lil guys have gone through in a short period of time. I do get a bit niggly when people just expect their hams to be all tame and trusting staright away- the odd one is but with any animal you have to build up trust. Not saying you are rushing just the taming process is so wonderful, i love it and i think the longer you do it the more trusting your pet will be- thats just my experience though x

it took 3 mnths for me to tame poppet as she used to leap out of my hands and bite almost every time i held her, now shes so sweet she will watch tv with us in my bathrobe pocket....it takes time but pays off big time...

These pet shops what will we do with them
I'm gonna work in one just so i can be a good pet shop worker (no thats a lie i want to smuggle all the hammies home mwa ha ha ha)
I guess i'm real lucky my pet shop does handle all the pets and every one so far has been friendly

somtimes you get more feisty ones than others, Lolipop lasted for about 5 minutes becus she bit my sister reeeeally hard and that was it poooorr baby lollipop lol that was before mimi lol. the ones at petsat home rarely get handled, and if they do then its to either clean out their cage, but they're so lazy they dont bother doing that right, and if someone is interested in one, but if they are then they're usually sold lol. just takes patiene goodluck!
