Default Is he trying to escape?

I just got my new hamster from pets at home adoption today(I’ll properly introduce him later when he settled down). He is a male Syrian and he lived in two connected samla bin. One thing I’ve noticed is that tonight
he keeps jumping up and down against the bin cage walls(a lot)like he did at pets at home. Is that a normal behaviour on new hamsters?( I also don’t know how to attach a vid here since I’m on mobile)
Edit:I also didn’t put the wheel there since it’s not arrived yet but will be tmr

It sounds like he’s trying to escape or is bored. You didn’t provide a lot of details. Is there bedding, food, water, hiding spots. He will need all of that to be happy and feel safe. My Syrian I had when I was a kid was an escape artist! They will try to escape! Try to make it as escape proof as you can so the little guy doesn’t get hurt.

There can be lots of different reasons they do it but I would I would also say that this a new home for him in a new place with new sounds and smells and it can take them a bit of time to settle in so he may just be feeling a bit discombobulated while he works out what's going on. There are some great threads on here about helping a hamster to settle in so I would take it gently with him, try some of those tips and observe his personality while he does. I feel as you get to know them, they're pretty good at telling you what they need.
