Default Creeping Hamster

Hi all, this is my first post so hope it's in the correct place. I've had my first hamster for 8 days and just have a question. Cookie (girl) creeps very slowly around her 44 gallon/200 litre cage. She started doing this after 2 day's of having her. In the first 2 day's she was exploring her cage normally, going through tubes and looking like she was having fun and settling in well. But now she creeps everywhere very slowly and cautiously and doesn't venture into the tubes anymore. Other than doing that she seems absolutely fine. Eating, drinking, running on her wheel. She takes treats from us at the front of the cage and out of our hands and even walks onto our hands. It's just she has started doing this creeping thing and am just a little concerned. She's the slowest moving hamster I've seen. (Apart from when she's on her wheel when she turns into Usain Bolt Haha!)
Hoping someone can give me some advice or ease my concerns. Thanks in advance!

Hi, any advice on the above? We've had her one month now and she's still the same. Seems like she's frightened of her own shadow. Makes herself jump and is still very nervous. And she's still creeping around the cage, almost like she's reluctant to take a single step forward. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Is it a glass tank? These are very open and can be quite scary and make the hamster nervous. The lie low to the ground. We call it the pancake creep! Try and get your hamster accustomed to movement around the cage and make sure she know you are approaching her especially from above. You could add some cardboard around some areas of the base to form a sort of base so she feels less exposed.

Hi, thanks for the advice. No she's not in a glass tank I've attached a photo of the cage she is in. She comes out of her green house runs straight onto her wheel and stays on that and doesn't explore the cage. She stays on the wheel all night then stocks up on food, has a drink then goes straight back into her house. I was wondering if I should take the wheel out for a bit so she can explore the cage more and maybe get more comfortable. She's just obsessed with the wheel. Would removing the wheel for a period of time maybe help?

Hi, I can't see the photo you posted. I wouldn't remove the wheel.

Hi, strange you cant see the photo. I can see it in my previous post now as i type. It says attached images and there is a link to click. But maybe I've done something wrong?
Yes I don't want to take the wheel away as she loves it, but that's all she's interested in and she's very reluctant to come off it. Its like every time she walks around her cage is the first time but she's been in it a month now. Its almost like she's more comfortable on us than she is in her cage. Very odd. I've attached a pic of her as well, hopefully you can see it. Thanks!

I've just tried to look at your cage photo again and now I can see it. I would put more substrate in the cage to make it deeper so Cookie can dig and maybe make her own tunnels. Put some tubes on top of the substrate so Cookie can hide and have some cover when moving around her cage. Hopefully with some cover from the tubes the cage will not seem so open and she will stop creeping. Hamster are always worried and alert because of predators in the wild and in cages. I hope that helps. Cookie is very cute.

Thank you. Yes she's very cute! I will definitely add more substrate and tubes. See if that makes her less nervous when moving around. Thanks for the advice. Will update with progress when we have some. If there is any more advice any one would like to share please feel free. It's our first hamster so any advice or tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
