Default My hamster is once again ignoring me

Hello everybody,
My hamster used to be very friendly and whenever I called his name or was close to the cage and he noticed me he wanted to come out and spend time with me, however, for whatever reason that has changed. He's now ignoring me and he's also ignoring my hand. When I offer him food from my hand he takes it and runs away with it. Before he used to sit on my hand and eat.
I don't recall doing anything differently, I haven't cleaned his cage or I don't see any reasons why he should be ignoring me.
Do you have any ideas what might be the cause of it? And when I put my hand in the cage he just casually walks by. It's as if I don't even exist. He doesn't even react when I pet him. He literally acts as if I don't exist. He's not attacking me either or anything. He literally acts as if I didn't exist anymore. Makes me wonder if I really exist.

Update: Nevermind, false alarm. We just finished playing on the playground and he no longer ignores me.

I'm glad that you are feeling happy with your hamster again.

I read your thread but to be honest, i didn't know what to say about it.

I had a dwarf who lived his whole life ignoring me but it didn't bother me.

The thing is we’ve spent time together everyday and we play every single day. Usually he comes out when he hears me and he usually always comes onto my hand, but he ignored me for a couple days and I started to wonder if it’s all over. After I created this thread he started sniffing around and looking outside the cage, so I went to the cage and put my hand there and he came onto my hand and we went to the playground and played for half an hour and then I brought him back home. I guess he just wanted to be alone for awhile and didn’t pay any attention to me. Usually when I pet him he turns around and licks my finger, but he didn’t care for me petting him at all. Today everything was back to normal.

I was concerned there might be a health issue or something.

I think hamsters are just a bit like us, we can sometimes have good and bad days. I’ve had this with my hamster and like you I wonder if something is wrong but they are solitary animals and sometimes as you say, they just like to do there own thing. As long as he’s eating and generally pottering around his cage and using his wheel, I would assume all is good. Turning round and licking your finger is super cute, not sure I’ll ever reach that kind of friendship with my Hams, but you never know.

So I have actually gotten lucky with my hamster?

Oh yes, you are lucky to have a hamster who interacts with you.

Many hamsters prefer to do their own thing a lot of the times.

So I've noticed. He's a very good hamster. We've had rough times together. I'll never forget when he had bugs and the beginning of it wasn't very pleasant for me. I felt that I regret getting a hamster and it was difficult. I also was misinformed by different YouTube channels that hamsters don't overeat, so whenever I saw him food bowl empty I put more food and I bought him so many sweets and I fed him a lot and he ended up being obese (107g) and only the third vet that I went to said that he's fat. Now he's 74g as of yesterday. I was told he has to weigh maximum of 50g, but that's simply not possible. I give him 2 teaspoons a day and sometimes also veggies, like cucumbers. He has to be at least a year old now, because I got him in August.

I looked at the pictures I took on the first day of him and he was fatter then than he is now. I remember that's why I also picked him out over the other hamsters. He was overweight and so cute. I don't know how much he weighed back then though.
But yeah, I remember I wasn't allowed to touch him at all back in the day. Now I'm allowed to touch him and his water and food bowl. Anything else I'm not allowed to touch. Especially the wheel. He'll try to stop me, but yeah, in general we get along great and I don't regret having him at all. It's been a great experience.
