Default Do hamsters chirp when they're happy?

Hello,
you all are more experienced with hamsters than I am. Today my hamster was behaving strangely. It was the first time he had ever behaved like this.

He wanted to get out of his cage, so I took him out and put him on the playground, but he didn't want to be there. So I took him out and put him on the bed and he didn't want to be there either. The same thing happened when he was on the couch. He always came back on my hand very fast. He was just sitting on my hand and chirping for about half an hour. The chirping was quiet, not loud.

He was just sitting on my hand and didn't move much, but he was chirping. When I googled it, it said it can be stress or pain or they might be fighting (He's all alone, so fighting is not an option and there are no other hamsters).

He has never just sat on my hand and always was excited to go somewhere and sometimes I can't get him off the couch, because he's not coming on my hand and there has been times when I've had to wait for him for an hour to come onto my hand.

Is everything okay or should I be worried?

I wouldn't use google as a reference because they don't know your hamster.

Most of my hamsters are vocal and one chirps. He chirps when he's annoyed or wants to complain to me about something. Google didn't mention that one.

I don't know why your hamster chirped but it was almost like he was trying to tell you something.
Did you check his cage and make sure that his water bottle and wheel are working ok?

I'm not sure where you are but if i remember right you are in Eastern Europe? If so, it's hot just now. Maybe he was feeling the heat and wanted a little piece of cool cucumber to cool him down.

England isn't too bad and i'm from Central Europe so grew up with extreme temperatures but even i moan about the hot weather. Maybe your hamster complained about it to you.

Some hamsters chirp when happy or excited but ours only chirp or screech when they are grumpy and some hamsters simply enjoy to sit on their human's hand.

Did you check him over to make sure he is ok?

It depends on the individual hamster, they can chirp when they're happy. You just have to get to know your hamster and figure out their vocalizations based on the context.

One hamster I had would do a soft little chirp as a response to my voice, and also that she was happy having together time. My current girl Cupcake chirps when she's scared, and squeaks when happy.

Their vocalizations are pretty nuanced and take getting used to.

Some hamsters are more vocal than others but it’s strange that this a change in behaviour. As said already by Ria though it may be the heat, try putting some ceramics around the cage or an ice pack against where he sleeps to help him cool down.

If it’s a very sudden change he probably is trying to tell you something, I also wonder if this has been a gradual change, maybe he’s just trying a bit older now as they tend to slow down a bit then. But from what you said it sounds sudden so I would try and hunt down the source of why he’s chirping

Hello,
You're right. I probably shouldn't use Google. Very many sites still recommend hamster balls etc and if I hadn't done more research guess who'd be running around in a hamster ball now?

He always has water and food, always. Water is also #1 priority. He doesn't drink from a bottle, but from a dish. He has water bottle, but I have never seen him drinking from there, but I've seen him drinking from the dish, so water dish it is.

Right now the weather is ok. It's not too hot nor too cold. He hasn't chirped today I don't know what it was yesterday, but I guess I shouldn't be worried?

I am pretty sure he's okay. I still can't check his stomach properly. I've tried to get him on his back but he does not like that at all and there's no point to force him. Even if I give him food while he's on his back. I believe he's okay though.

Thank you
