Also I checked out that cage you mentioned and ideally you want 80cm x 50cm minimum. Also having one extra level is okay but you don’t really want anything as tall as that as they might fall and hurt theirselves. I wish I could give you some cage suggestions but I have no clue for ones in Poland.

I understand how it is with the bugs, i had them last year as so many people seemed to. Its a nightmare. Thats when recycling cardboard and plastic ceramic items can be your friend, because they can be cleaned easily or binned and cardboard costs nothing. Any ceramjc hides should be placed on the floor or on platforms so no accidental squashed hamsters.lots of people use things like ceramic bird feeders which you can sometimes find in shops such as aldi or lidl, i think i read you were in Poland, do you have those type shops there?I would suggest meshing the cage and trying to make it look semi cluttered with items in the cage. Also, how much does your hamster weigh?

I can tell you care very much for your hamster and I think that is lovely. You have provided them with the biggest cage you could find which is wonderful. Is it possible to get mesh there? I think you will waste your money by buying another cage when yours looks fine.

I know how hard it is to find a vet who understand hamsters so it is possible your hamster is not actually overweight. Is it possible to show us a picture of your hamster? When I had guinea pigs, one vet told me one of my guinea pigs was overweight which was not true. The vet just did not understand guinea pigs.

Yes, we have lots of Lidls and Aldis over here. I literally live almost next both of the stores, but I usually go to a pet store for such things and haven't really found anything that useful. As I've already said I often have to order paper bedding online as well.
I posted a picture of him and the weight above this post. He's still overweight. He's my first hamster, but he already looked overweight when I bought him (actually that was the reason I bought him. He looked so cute) and then I gave him salads, carrots, and different sweets I found from the stores every day and when I got to the third vet she said he's extremely obese (he was 107g) and the reason why I mainly got so worried is that sometimes he's chirping and sometimes he's screeching while he's asleep and then later I noticed him losing fur on his tummy and so I took him to the other vet that claimed to specialise in rodents and other exotic animals. Now I've been feeding him 2 teaspoons per day of the food that the vet gave me and said he's supposed to be 40-50g, which is most likely true.

My mom keeps watching YouTube videos and saying that hamsters are supposed to be 120g etc and that I'm torturing my hamster by starvation and other things. She'll visit me soon and she promised to feed my hamster etc, so I'm a bit worried we're going to lose all of the progress we've made, but I'll try to convince her otherwise by showing the papers from the vet. Sometimes she has even yelled at me when I tell her that I'm not starving him. I hope it'll go well nevertheless.

What I'm most curious about is how old my hamster is. We've been together for one year soon and this has been a great experience. He was so afraid of me at first and startled at everything, but now he comes to me and I can hold him in my hand and pet him and I can touch him without him getting startled. I'm really grateful for you guys helping me and supporting me.

It sounds like you have a lovely bond with your hamster. What is his name? I am sure somebody with experience will reply soon. I am new to hamsters and cannot work out what species your little one is.

I think if you could find a suitable wheel then he will loose weight. Hamsters get most of their exercise from running on their wheel. I know what you mean about having to buy everything online. I have bought all my hamster stuff online.

I'm not an expert on dwarf hamsters, and I think that is what you have going by your pic and the weight. Weight can vary so much and i think it is rather a case of if a hamster maintains their weight, that generally is a good sign of the amount of food and the type of food they are eating is doing what it should for them. 120g did sound a lot, but 70g sounds about right to me. My robo is approx 34-36g and dwarfs are roughly twice the size of him. But, again I know some robos will only weigh about 19g. so they can vary.
Is your mum looking at syrian hamster weights. Because they can weigh anything from around 130g to 300g depending on their size and if been ethically bred etc.
If you are giving your hamster healthy treats like leafy greens and his normal food I think you will be on the right track. Yes, sadly pet stores aren't the best place to look for hamster items, although you really think they would be. Things like empty tissue boxes or empty crisp tubes can work really well too and don't cost a fortune.

I was checking Etsy for you to see if there are many sellers in Poland who sell hamster things. The only things I found was this shop.

HAMSTERRIFICshop | Etsy UK

There are some nice treats for your hamster. I put the link in case you wanted to look.

78g isn't that heavy to call him obese. He looks fine to me. Dwarf hamsters come in different sizes just like humans. Here is a photo i took of my dwarf hamster today. She's big, very round and healthy. Do you think she's fat?

The wire wheel is dangerous though and too small as well i think so needs to be replaced with one he can run on. He'll probably lose some weight then.

Just to add. I don't give my dwarf hamster sweets because that's not good for her. I feed her a small scoop of dwarf hamster mix daily, a pinch of brown linseeds and a very small amount of greens like spinach, peas, kale, broccoli, cucumber etc but no fruit because of the sugar. For a treat she gets a few dried mealworms or sunflower seeds and she has a whimzee.

Your hamster probably put on weight because you fed him sweets every day but he's your first hamster and we all had to learn and we are still learning, so don't worry about it.

Maybe have a chat with your mum and teach her about the different hamsters and that Syrians are a lot bigger and heavier than dwarf hamsters.
