Rescue Robo Squeaking?
Hey guys,
From March this year, I rescued a Robo hamster that was left outside my work in a tiny cage. I have no idea of age however he does look to be fully grown and he is intensely active. He lives in a 120cm by 60cm wooden hamster home so he has a palace now in comparison to his tiny cage he was dumped in.
As of last night, I noticed he had started this squeaking sound, now, he is the first Robo hamster I've ever adopted, I've previously always had Syrians so I'm unsure of if the behaviours vary between the breeds.
He has a motion sense camera in his cage so I watched the footage this morning and he seems to be acting his usual self, running on his wheel and exploring his cage.
Can anyone shed light on his behaviour? I've attached a video link of him and his squeakiness.

i'm pretty sure squeaking means stress, have you done a full clean recently or done a lot of cage rearranging lately? either way i'd maybe just pop a few treats in the cage and leave him for a few days

He isn’t due a cage clean till next week and apart from daily maintenance like changing water, checking food and spot cleaning. He is left alone as he’s extremely nocturnal I rarely see him. He’s been eating and drinking and running around as usual so part of me thinks it’s just contentment?

Fascinating. I have never heard a Robo that vocal. Sounds like an excited or maybe annoyed sound but i'm guessing because i have no idea.
You're lucky that he's so tame and comes to you. Does he also squeak when you're hand is not near his cage? Just wondering if its a territorial thing.

In the video, he was being fed some seeds just because I wanted to get a closer look at him to make sure there wasn't any discharge around his nose as a sign of a respiratory infection.
If I'm honest, this is the first time he has approached my hand without running away and hiding first. His squeaking is extensive outside of my hand being in there but not constant, he does have periods where he is quiet. I've heard him whilst he is burrowed and sometimes he's awake in his tunnel making the sound.
I'm not too worried about their being anything wrong medically but I feel if any of his behaviour changes then I'll be booking a vet appointment first thing.

Re: Rescue Robo Squeaking?
I take it that you've done the routine checks like wheel and water bottle working ok.
One of ours walks around chirping when his fresh food is late after he's looked at an empty dish.

Yeah all is working fine. He has a bottle and a water bowl so he's got the best of both. Maybe, he's just become treat orientated I read that seeds are like giving children sweets

Unlike humans, hamsters aren't greedy and don't tend to overeat.
A hamster mix is made up from seeds. I think its the fatty ones like sunflower seeds that are used as treats in moderation.
Maybe he's just a Robo with a lot to say for himself, lol.
