Default Robo scared by barred cage?

We've recently rescued four Robos from a chest of drawers type unit where they lived in shallow, narrow and stacked under bed storage boxes with only a row of drilled holes for ventilation. Luckily we got to them before the recent heatwave. Three have already been successfully rehomed leaving little Kevin who is with me.

I housed him in the Grosvenor which isn't a huge cage and added lots of enrichment. After a couple of days i got worried because everything stayed untouched, food mix, fresh food, mealworms, house, hides, chews, sand, wheel etc. I saw him on the saucer briefly once. He hid in the substrate under the platform where i saw a hole.
My OH is currently in Scotland so its quiet in the house.

I fished him out and checked him over including teeth but couldn't see anything amiss. So i thought it must be the cage and moved him into the fish tank then left him to sleep. I don't normally disturb hamsters unless i'm concerned about them so i took the roof off the house and took him out but still couldn't see anything wrong with him physically.

He then started to sniff around, did a roll in the sand, sat at the front for ages grooming, snoozing, went into a hide and nibbled on millet.
This morning the fresh food had gone and he had been in the food mushroom, there were lots of paw prints in the sand and the saucer had been used.

He is a sad looking little Robo and i have no idea what's going on in his little head.

Reason for this thread is that i'm looking for opinions because there is so much emphasis on large habitats nowadays.

I believe that Kevin needs a smallish tank type habitat like the Duna Multy or a bin cage like the 64l rub to feel comfortable in. Am i seeing this completely wrong?

Aww look at him! He’s melted my heart with that little face. I firmly believe that every ham is an individual with their own likes and dislikes. Ours certainly find it easy to let us know what they want!!! Given the conditions he was kept in before, he may well be more comfortable in a smaller environment to begin with. Who knows that, with time, he may get used to that and be able to be moved into a larger home but if he seems happier in a smaller set up then that is what I personally would keep him and see how he goes x

Maybe it's the type of cage, he was kept in a very enclosed space before, he might just need time to get used to bar type, more open cages. Or maybe he will just be better in a tank style cage, I'm guessing you don't have a bigger one to try him in. See how it goes, I think time will only tell.

Also, he may just be taking a bit longer to get used to his new surroundings. I noticed with Comet when I moved him into the zoozone whilst deep cleaning the marrakesh he was very unsettled for quite a few days, maybe a week or so and he is always so suspicious of anything new in his cage.

Thank you both.
I have a Duna Multy but will keep him in the tank for a while because i don't want to unsettle him again and i need to be able to see him now and again.
I had him up for adoption with the Grosvenor but took the ad down when i realized that he wasn't ready to move on, unlike his brothers.

Must go and chant now "you cannot keep him" " you cannot keep him"..........but must find him a special home, eventually.
