Question hamster freezing not moving

my hamster is around 2 months old and i’ve had her two weeks - she’s very comfortable around me more than my other hamsters and last night and the night before she was on my arm and i thought she was sleeping on me but her eyes were open and she was just frozen for like an hour??? i’m not too good at explaining but it was like a paralysis she wasn’t asleep unless she sleeps with her eyes open but her whole body was stiff?? and i picked her up and moved her to the other arm and her body didn’t like stretch out it was in the same position it looked like she was dead her whiskers weren’t twitching but she started to come back and blinked and stuff but it just freaked me out as it happens quite often and she does it in her cage as well and i’m scared as i lost my other hamster so young and i don’t want her to die or anything ☹️plz help!!! btw i have a video of anyone wants me to send to help solve this - if u have any questions i’m happy to answer!!!

Baby hamsters to get startled easily by things unknown to us so hopefully she'll grow out of it.

One of my hamsters froze in the middle of my bed when he was a baby which worried me as well.

I believe that hamsters freeze when scared because they are prey animals and by not moving think that a predator won't see them.

To be honest, i don't know much about this behaviour but you could have a browse on the Forum under Behaviour to see if you can find any information or threads on this.

How is your hamster now?

She just got startled thats wat they do. When she does just talk to her using her name and she should relax!
No matter how much they trust you there still a prey animal where everyone and everything is bigger than them. As time passes and the more desensitised to her envioment she gets the less she'll do it.

one of my old hamsters used to do this too, randomly, in and out of the cage. my hypothesis is that my Syrian ham was experiencing some kind of neurological issue, like an absence seizure. they would last a couple of hours, during which time he would stare off into the distance not moving. if I picked him up, no reaction. the initial "seizure" would last up to ten mins and afterwards he'd be confused and dopy for the next few hours.

like others have said though, the most likely thing is that your ham is frightened or startled by something. try to work out if there's a pattern for when she does it. are there any stressors around the room - strong scents, lots of electrics (which can potentially buzz and stress animals), harsh lighting on her cage/tank, etc. are you handling her too roughly perhaps? many things to consider!!

I hope you can find an answer, but rest assured that it's probably nothing to worry about. she will probably grow out of it, and if not, as long as she's not in pain, it's all good.
