Default Hamster is rarely out from under his bedding.

My hamster is rarely out at and given time. I stay up pretty late into the night often and dont really see him. He only really comes out to eat and drink a couple times a day. The reason this is odd is because a week ago he would run on his wheel all night. The only thing that has changes since then was me spot cleaning the cage and adding up to 6 in of bedding to his cage. I got him 4 weeks ago and when I transferred him into his current cage he loved it and was so active. I have been looking for reasoning and saw it could be because of other animals in the room which I have a dog in my room 80% of the time but that did not effect him when he would run for hours before.

If you've recently added 6 inches of bedding (providing he had less before) he might just be having a good time digging.
Also, has it been cold in the room he is kept in? If it is cold in my house I definitely notice that my rodents barely come out apart from to eat and drink.
Otherwise, 4 weeks is still quite new and he may just be shy! You should keep up with taming to make sure he is familiarised with you. When my hamster was new she wouldn't come out if I was in the room and this lasted a month or so.

Wishing you the best with your hammy

Hello and welcome to HC!

Have you checked that the wheel is working ok?
They can get jammed with substrate, chew sticks etc.
