Hamster won't stop burrowing?
Hello everyone!
My hamster is a 9 week old Syrian called Hope. When I first got hope, I knew she was an avid burrower. I gave her 6 inches of sand to burrow in to begin with, and she dug in it all night.
Throughout her cage I have given her 6 inches. She has made many, many burrows and even when she is not creating new burrows, she is digging up her bedding, especially in the corners. This obviously isn't a problem to me, but is this a behaviour I should be worried about at all? I have given her plenty of toys, an 11 inch wheel, plenty of hiding homes.
She has also started to chew on the bars, which I am aware is often due to stress or a small cage, although I thought this cage I got her was big enough.
Is there something she's trying to tell me?

Re: Hamster won't stop burrowing?
Burrowing is natural behaviour but if it seems excessive it may mean her cage size or set up isn’t suiting her especially as she’s started bar chewing too.
Does she have out of cage time?
If you could post a photo of your cage set up that would help see if there’s anything you might be able to change.

Also could you give her more than 6 inches of bedding? A photo of the set-up would help.

Re: Hamster won't stop burrowing?
Chewing the bars can be a sign of stress or boredom.
Can we have a picture of the cage set up?
Burrowing is completely normal so don't worry. I'd also recommend scatter feeding if you don't already, she'll love that. Also I agree with the above, put more bedding in, the more the better.
