Default Not burrowing

Hello! My Syrian hamster hasn't burrowed since we got him. He has more than enough bedding (about 7-8" , I tried adding a few more inches and he still didn't burrow, so I brought it back down to 7-8")
I am not really worried, just kind of curious. He has only dug tiny holes while he is looking for food, unlike my robo who goes full blown bulldozer on her bedding.
If anyone could give their opinion on why he is not burrowing, that would be appreciated. Also, are there any tricks besides hiding food that encourages burrowing?

Some syrians have been known not to start burrowing until they have about 12in of bedding, but if he doesn't burrow and isn't showing signs of boredom, I don't think it is really an issue. Some are just weird like that. My Russian hybrid didn't start burrowing until her whole cage was filled with 10in of bedding instead of just one section of her cage with deep bedding.

My Syrian is 1.5 yrs old, i had him since he was a baby and he has never burrowed. Just not his thing. He likes heights and sits on degus shelves, runs across his cage on a suspended bridge and wicker tunnel combo, climbs up and into his hay basket etc. Took me a while to figure out what he liked though. He digs the odd hole but thats as far as he goes and he stuck his head into the substrate a couple of times when i was taming him because he was in a strop.

I've had syrian hamsters for 20 years and in that time only a few have burrowed. The dwarf hamsters are the burrowers. My hamster Noah likes to burrow when he's had a cage clean, once he burrows he then goes underneath and hide. Every hamster has it likes and dislikes.

Unhappy Re: Not burrowing

Hi, I have a question, I got my hamster 1 month ago, and so far I have not seen any burrows or him trying to burrow, He only digs when I place food that's it , I tried to put a little paper tube inside the bedding so he can go inside and try to make a little burrow but the next day it moved to the other side of the cage I give enough bedding for him to be able to burrow I have an area to burrow and I have another level for enrichment but so far he hasn't been even trying to burrow is it wrong?
