Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
If you have a branch of The Range near you, I was able to get some Charlie Chinchilla sand from them at a very reasonable price.

Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
I use children's play sand as a sand bath - I got a bag I keep in the garage for cheap.

Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
Hope it works for you...I have considered putting a potty in Sir Alan's weewee corner but I don't think he'd use (he'd probably think it was a store cupboard for food) it so I've just been carrying on as normal, cleaning the corner every day. I did try putting a dish in that corner but he just pushed it out the way and weed behind it!

Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
I got Jenga a new potty. One of those colourful ones from the petshop. It's rubbish. It has a clip on lid which pops open so Jenga basically threw all the litter out and has taking to peeing behind the potty.

It was this one so I suggest that you NOT get it. I might just use a jam jar instead.

Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
Hi all! Thanks for all your advice and I think it may have worked! So I got him some Chinchilla sand and a little square tupperware box and put the improvised sand bath in his cage today as it was time for him to be cleaned out. Although he has not peed in it he a absolutley LOVING rolling around like a mad thing in the sand!!! It was the first thing he did when I poped him back into his clean cage. Thanks guys, he loves it!!! Here are some piccys to prove it!

Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
Is it a good idea to use litter in a hamster potty? I'm training Jenga to use her potty and she's currently going behind it. I've put some the soiled carefresh in the potty but is it possible that she's not using it because the litter renders it odourless? Is that possible?

Re: Time to get Boris a Potty???
Smysha, I'm no expert but it could be and seems logical. Boris pees in one corner on the sawdust (still waiting for sandbath results, but I'm just happy he likes rolling around like a loon in it - he was at it again when I got up this morning!)so I would suppose that he keeps going back there because the sawdust doesnt deodourize it at all and he can smell his own smell.
