Robs Fighting over water bottle...
You might know about my bad luck with hamsters from my previous posts, but I just decided to get a pair of male robs, and now, after 2 days, they're fighting over the water bottle... They were both trying to get to it and they ended up clawing at each others' faces. It was only briefly, but could this mean more problems....? =(

Re: Robs Fighting over water bottle...
well it might not mean a problem, just a bit of a squabble.
But all you need to do is keep an eye and note if they squabble over anything else.
With a pair of robos its generally useful to have two of almost everything.
I had a bottle and a bowl for my two, athough they never fought in the first place.
What cage do they have???

Yeah, I think if you could install another water bottle it may solve your problems. And from what I've read on here I would say get two wheels aswell for them, as they can fight over these too!

Re: Robs Fighting over water bottle...
Definately get two of everything! I was worried my two were going to have to be seperated, but the minute I got 2 of everything they stopped fighting and havent said one bad word to each other since! =)

Re: Robs Fighting over water bottle...
A little fighting is natural, one hamster will always be dominant.
Its just if blood is drawn or continuous fighting you need to worry about.

oh...dear...
something must have gone terribly wrong here!
Did you notice any more signs of serious fighting before this happened?
I'm really sorry to hear of your lose, these things just happen sometimes

Re: Robs Fighting over water bottle...
I am very sorry to hear this. Was there no way that you could separate them before things got to this stage? Perhaps it may be best to have 2 single Robos in the future? I keep my dwarf on his own and he is very happy. And I think Fluffymunchkins keeps a single Robo without any difficulties too.

Re: Robs Fighting over water bottle...
yes i do although i didn't decide this by choice. My robo Peggys cage mate mate died, but she has been fine ever since.
hamster much enjoy hyuman attention and in some cases it benifits to have them relieved of the stress of dominance!

Re: Robs Fighting over water bottle...
I am sorry to hear about what happened, I also had to seperate my Robos, and they both live very happily apart. I know if they didn't, one would be dead.
It does seem to happen quickly, with mine, they were completely fine, then a little squabbling, having got them two of everything they managed two hours without a squabble then they fought again and blood was drawn. That's when I seperated (there were attempts at reintroduction, but to no avail) it happened very fast. Seemingly as soon as the hormones kick in that's when it starts, and you have to be super aware and ready. Obviously with them being nocturnal this can be difficult.
If you do feel like trying again, either be ready to seperate very quickly, and look for the signs, or perhaps adopt a single rescue as ther are plently that need homes.
Did both the Robo's die?
