Thank you for all the advice, it's difficult to get to know him when he doesn't even come out his house at a reasonable hour but will persevere with him.

My Syrian always comes out for a bit of hard boiled egg (strong smell?) which i put in his egg cup with the stand submerged in the substrate and placed near his house. You could try that.
Someone here gave me the tip to put red fairy lights up around but not on the cage because hamsters can't see red lights. I can sit in the room with the main lights off and the fairy lights on to watch my hamster going about his business. I think sometimes they wait for dark and quiet before they come out. They don't sleep all the time when in their house.
