Noisy Water Bottle
Hamilton has a glass water bottle. He's usually fairly quiet with said water bottle. All of a sudden he's shoving the metal tip into his cheek pouches, trying to deep throat it, and starting to chew on it. This started happening two nights ago, and it's the same bottle he's had since I got him almost a month ago. Why is he doing this? Is he stressed about sonething?

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
They can start to do that for various reasons, bottle not working properly, boredom stress, it's not always easy to know why but it can become a bad habit & potentially cause over consumption of water & damage to teeth. The best thing if you've checked to make sure it's not a problem with the bottle working properly is to replace it with a small shallow bowl.

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
I figured it out, I need to buy him a new bottle. I'm using one of the Kaydee ones with the little yellow duck. It's old, so I should replace it anyway. Any suggestions as to which one I should buy?

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
I'm don't know which bottles you can get in the US, I always used to use the classic bottles but you may not have them there.

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
I have no clue what we have. I've only been to PetSmart and PetCo. There's a bunch of smaller stores near me.

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
Most of the normal bottles that you see at Petsmart and Petco are good, there's really not a specific brand that's best. I use Petsmart's Grreat Choice bottle just because it was cheap and does its job. I've never had problems with that kind with either Pip or my gerbils

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
I want to try one of the water bottles that don't use the metal ball. My fiance's hamster, Teddy, has one of those no-drip bottles that is just a tiny hole in a nozzle. Maybe that'll work better?

Re: Noisy Water Bottle
Did you mean something like the ferplast sippy? They're not really suitable as the hamster's drinking angle isn't good for them, they'd almost have to be directly underneath it. The best option would be a water bowl but if that isn't an option then probably a regular bottle.
