Male ham in heat?

So the other day, I was petting my hamster, mr. Whiskers (note the "Mr.") and he froze, with his tail straight up in the air and he shifted his weight all the way back to his back legs. He looked exactly like a female hamster would if she was in heat. He is definitely male though. He has hamster sized testicles, and if I hold him on his back, according to the sexing charts he is, er, definitely male. I also noticed that that particular day, one of his scent glands was really oily looking, his fur around it seemed slightly matted and wet, but that went away today. I've seen this oily gland type of thing before with him too, not sure what it is or if it's connected. But can anyone explain his behavior?

Male hamsters can't come into a heat lol He might have just been "frozen" and listening to what was going on if something caught his attention.

Don't worry about the scent gland they can look a wee bit oily from time to time - just depends how much they've been scenting!

We have had males who will stick their tails up when you pet them but more just to balance themselves. Males do not come into heat. There is the very very rare hamster who has both male and female organs but these animals are not fertile. I think he was just enjoying his stroking really.
