New Syrian Hamster chewing though cage bottom
I recently got my first hamster!
She's lovely, but she's started chewing the floors in the corners of her cage. I've tried placing objects in the corners to no avail, she just moves them. It's gotten to the point where she has chewed a hole straight through the cage bottom, to the carpet below. I've placed boards in the corner to buy myself more time.
I've considered covering the floor with linoleum, since the current floor is thin cardboard-like pressurized wood. I'd also consider laying bricks in the corners, since I'm sure she couldn't move them.
Her current setup is a 900 square inch DIY cage made from an old dresser.

Re: New Syrian Hamster chewing though cage bottom
Congrats on your first ham!
Unfortunately it sounds as though you're cage just isn't safe for your ham, making cages from old furniture isn't really a good idea as you won't know if the wood is safe to use or if it's been treated with anything that is unsafe.
You definitely can't put lino in the base of a cage as that would be chewed & be dangerous for your ham.
I would either buy a proper hamster cage if you can find a good size one or make a bin cage using a large plastic storage bin ideally a Syrian needs something around 100x50cm & high enough for a 10-12" wheel.
I'd try to buy or make something as soon as you can to keep your ham safe.
