Question Runs back to cage

Hi I'm new to posting after lurking for a bit

About two weeks ago I bought a dwarf hamster from pets at home and only now are we getting to the stage where she lets me handle her (only outside of her cage mind you) The cage she has right now is much too small (Ferplast Combi 1) and I plan on expanding it soon, however in the meantime I often take off the front tube and just let her run around on my bed. I've noticed though that as soon as I take her out of the cage she'll just run back into it and not take advantage of the extra space. Is this normal hamster behaviour? Thanks ^_^

She is probably still a little scared and the bed is a big wide open space so she will be seeking cover. Maybe in you make some hidey holes withe the duvet and pillows she will enjoy exploring around these. Ours sure do Try not to swoop down on her or loom over her as this sets of an alarm signal instinctively in a hammy and the will either freeze or run away seeking cover (Like an eagle is swooping down on them)
You sound to be doing well for having had her two weeks so your taming is working. Well done
