We had a little bit of a breakthrough. I thought like a hamster (crazy I know) and put a banana chip in his ball and he climbed in quite happily. Also I saw him use his potty for the first time today.
Glad to hear you are making progress
I just looked at the photo and he really looks like a syrian to me lol but that might be because i haven't seen many dwarfs! His face shape made me think he was a syrian though
I can see what you mean by him looking like a syrian but he looks dwarf sized to me. A very cute lil one
Good idea thinking hamster! i do that too by hiding food in the places i would search if i was a hammy

Re: lazy or depressed?
I think he is a black Campbells dwarf and a real cutie too. They are not very common.
He sounds to be making good progress. Take care with too many sweet treats for this species as they can be prone to diabetes.
I'm sure he will be tame in no time

thats great!! and your relationship will get better and better...
well, i've had my hamster for a month now and i've come to a conclusion that my hamster is just straight up lazy lol. he'll sleep through anything except for when i give him a half of a milkbone. that's the only time he'll wake up.
