Re: Russian dwarf hamster
Backstroke? Do you mean a Backflip?
I'd personally take her to see a vet and take the see-saw out.

Re: Russian dwarf hamster
I'm not sure what you mean either tbh but if it is back flips then this can be a neurological behaviour that some show, a cage change may have stressed him & brought that behaviour on, if it continues he may need to see a vet but for now I would remove the see saw & make sure there's nothing he can hurt himself on if he keeps doing it.

Re: Russian dwarf hamster
Have you removed the see saw?
It's hard to say whether this would be a neurological problem or whether the hamster is just falling onto it's back & struggling to get back up again.
The most important thing is to remove the see saw if you haven't already, if he continues to do it elsewhere in the cage then it would be worth getting your ham checked by your vet.

Re: Russian dwarf hamster
That's good, it sounds as though he was just falling & having difficulty getting up again then.

Re: Russian dwarf hamster
I have a Russian dwarf female, Daisy. I've had her and her sister, Poppy, for about 2 years. In the last few months Daisys fur has started to look dull and "greasy" and her front legs have no fur on them at all and look red raw & shes very thin. She also looks to me as though she is hunched over and has difficulty walking. Poppy however is in excellent condition, she has "meat on her bones" her fur is shiny, the complete opposite to daisy. I keep them in separate identical enclosures, they have always had the same of everything. Does anyone know what might be wrong with Daisy?

Re: Russian dwarf hamster
Daisy & Poppy are quite a good age now if you've had them for two years, some fur loss & weight loss is normal with old age but it does sound as though it's more than just age with Daisy & she is unwell & probably in pain, it's hard to guess what the problem might be but I would get her seen by a vet as soon as you can.
