Tamed?

How do you know when a hamster is tamed.

To me, it's largely when they will allow you to pick them up and stroke them without jumping a mile! It's usually fairly obvious when a new hamster is tamed. They start off by running every time you try to pick them up and won't stay in your hands without wriggling off. But, as they get used to you, they will allow themselves to be picked up and will walk from hand to hand rather than nose diving for freedom!

This made me laugh! Most hamsters never bite though, even when untamed (at least from my experience of the 7 my family have owned so far!). And, even tame hamsters will sometimes give you a nibble if your hands smell of food.

Not too sure about biting stopping just because a hamster is tame,since that can happen at any time with any animal whether it be an accident or not!Many things can make this more likely though,including long nails that can be very appealing to curious hamsters.

That was the effect I was going for.

If I'm honest, I've had three Syrians in the past and my current dwarf and none of them have been bitters.

Yeah I think hamsters in general don’t like to bite, so their reputation for being biters is completely unfair! To be honest, my cat is the biter - but even then only towards my brother (maybe she dislikes men!)
