Default New hamster settling in

We got our new hamster today. She is around 8 weeks old and has apparently been handled quite a lot in the pet shop. I had expected her to be terrified and hide in a corner for the first few days, but she is already amazingly lively!

She has been climbing the ladders and bars, running in the exercise wheel and generally exploring the new home thoroughly. She is untaxed by 2 giggling children watching her every move too.

The only thing she hasn't done yet is eat but I'm not worried about that. She has only been here about 4 hours lol

Sounds like a real livewire and a little character. You are lucky she has been well handled and seems quite tame. I'm sure she will eat when she is hungry and as she settles will have more of a routine and not be about so much during the day. So your children can enjoy her you can start to teach her to get up when you call her so the youngsters can enjoy handling and playing with her before bedtime

I agree, this one looks like she will be a little livewire And she isn't scared of us, so it bodes well for taming her once she has had a bit of time to settle.

Just to update this, we let Sugar have 5 minutes in her ball yesterday evening. Then we put her in an empty plastic toy crate with a few toys and experimented with letting her run over her hands, and stroking her a little bit. She was absolutely fine, didn't seem frightened and didn't try to nip.

I haven't picked her up yet but she seems very tame already, I think we have struck lucky with this one

Glad she's settling in okay. When your both ready to pick up - i would do so over the crate, just in case she has a wriggle - that way she won't get to far. Great news though.
