Standing up on hind legs?
I am sorry if it is a silly question. My hamster (Mars) seems to often try to stand up on his hind legs and look upward. Does this behavior mean anything? Mars is a young campbell .

Re: Standing up on hind legs?
Commonly known as meerkating Most hams do it to some extent, just to get a better view of things I think.

Re: Standing up on hind legs?
If he does this when you approach him or try to lift him up, it's a defensive behavior, but if he's just doing it in general as cypher said, it's a perfectly normal behavior that all hams do. They do it when curious or exploring their surroundings to gather information

Re: Standing up on hind legs?
If it's defensive they often hiss at you, I think it's just normal meerkating though Drago, I should probably have said they do it to get a better sniff around rather than look around as they can't see much anyway!

Re: Standing up on hind legs?
Hi Muntaseer,
Standing on their back legs is quite normal behaviour, here is a pic of Pip doing just that...

Re: Standing up on hind legs?
It just means he is curious and wants to see what is going on. If he isn't hissing or screaming, he is fine
