3 behaviors I don't get

Hi! We have a new little girl Cinnamon. Teddy bear, maybe about 4 weeks?

I've only had her a few days but I've noticed three behaviors. The internet has conflicting info, please help!

I am brand new to hammies.

1. Licking me when I am hand training her.

2. Hiding in her house all the time - maybe since it's only been a few days??

3. Drinking her pee - she loved the dish of water we gave her after that. Maybe she doesn't understand the water bottle?

Any suggestions ideas etc very welcome! Thanks!

Hiding in the house is because she hasn't settled into her new home yet.

Check the water bottle is working correctly. If your hamster hasn't used one before. You could put a small amount of water in a bowl under the water bottle. As the hamster drinks from the bowl it will probably make a drip of water come out off the bottle and soon learn to use the bottle.

Thanks! I had a feeling those were the answers but I wanted to make sure. It's hard not to hover over your new little one. She seems to be doing well otherwise in all her faculties.

Leave her alone in her cage for a while so she can get used to her environment, new smells and sounds etc.. she is possibly a bit confused and scared because it's all new to her.

Don't go straight into handling, it's best to speak to her and give her a few sunflower seeds as treats so she understand you're not a threat before you start handling, otherwise she could be scared.

Licking your hand is normal though, there may have been a food smell on your hand which is why she licked it.

Once she gets used to her new environment and yourself, she will come out of her house more
