Default syrian hamster princess

hey i got my syrian hamster yesterday she black and wgite she really pretty. she very confident. but ive got to admit im being a bit of a scaredy cat when it comes to touching her because every time i do stroke her she kind of flips to her side and today she fliped right over. i can stroke her when she eating shes not bothered then but when she walking around she flips over.
what does her flipping over mean?
and how can i start making her trust me. she takes the hamster chocolate drops from my hand and i can touch her when shes busy eating but over then thats she just flips. ive probably confused you lot now sorry x probably sounds silly coming from someone that has seven rats and has been biten but her youngest rats lol
oh and does anyone know if hamster bite are worse then rat bites and is it true that when hamsters bite they stay on or hand or finger for a awhile? sorry i have had a hamster before but i was to young to remeber! also is it true girls are worse then boys? xx

She sounds very cute and congrats on your new addition. The flipping over means she is scaredat the moment but it is early days and she will settle given time and patience. Have a look at our Taming Tips article on the WIKI for some help.
Hammy bites are no so bad really. I have been bitten many times but only once did he cling on for a few seconds. The others have just bitten down and released.

Hamter bites arnt that bad, yeah sometimes they hurt but it only lasts for abit - sort of like a needle. and i would go with souffle's advice of reading the wiki's or try wearing some gardening/ thickish gloves good luck x

give your hamster some time to get to know you. my herbert did exactly the same (well, he didnt flip over ) when your hamster is eating she doesnt notice you becuase she is busy with eating so you can stroke her

My little girl Skittles does just the same, she did it a lot more when I first got her (about 3 months ago) but I just kept on making her take food from my hand and let her sniff my hand before I touched her again.

You do get a few hammy bites, but they're nothing compared to what you get from the constant patience of taming your hamster
