my hamster is acting weird
well recently and by recently i mean within the last 2 weeks my hamster has been acting very strange. By strange i mean he hasn't been as social, he has been sleeping in, and now when i go near his cage he has been hiding or if he doesn't he will just stand still as if he doesn't move ill go away. idk what to do i haven't been treating him different nor have i tried to force him to get up i want him to be comfortable with me but i want to actually be able to see him, ya know. well i just though i would share in hopes that anyone can assist me in any way possible. Thank you

Re: my hamster is acting weird
Any changes at all you can think of, cage cleans or any changes in the area around his cage, sounds, smells or anything different?
My Chinese gets a bit like that when I clean her nest out!
How has taming been going generally? If he does come out I would just keep talking to him without actually opening the cage or going into his space for a bit, maybe try offering him something through the bars & see if he reacts to that.
It's hard to say without knowing more about what he was like previously but possibly you've gone a little quickly with taming & need to take a step back?
They can just get a bit moody sometimes so I wouldn't worry too much!

Re: my hamster is acting weird
A sick ham will also get antisocial so keep an eye on him for any other signs like how is he eating and drinking etc

Re: my hamster is acting weird
well i havnt changed his bedding but i have changed the layout of his cage and he eats normal and drinks often that hasn't changed. as for feeding him through the bars, he lives in a tank so i cant do that but he will still take food from my hand when i offer it to him. he came out of his house yesterday though and i got to play with him for a while he seemed normal but he is still waking up later and later i feel that, that can possibly be due to construction going around in my house. Other than that he still is pretty lethargic in a sense that he doesn't really explore as much as he used to or maybe thats him being comfortable with his surroundings? idk thank you for the replies

Re: my hamster is acting weird
Changing the layout of the cage can be quite stressful for them so that could explain it, they do usually adjust ok if you give them a little time to settle again.
If the construction work is noisy then that would be enough to disturb him & stop him from wanting to come out, keep him as quiet as you can & try to reassure him if he does make an appearance.
Do keep an eye out for any signs of ill health, he probably is just a bit stressed rather than sick but stress can make them ill too.

Re: my hamster is acting weird
If your hamster is acting like that, they might be sick. Keep an eye out for anything wrong with him. Also, if you recently got him, moved, changed the room he was in or anything like that, he might be weary of the new surroundings. Give him a few days to adjust, or try offering him food.
