A squeak or a sneeze?

Wasn't sure which forum to post this in so I hope it's OK here...

I started getting cold symptoms yesterday and obviously I'm very bothered about passing a cold on to my Syrian, Smokey - she seems in good health but she's 19 months old now and I worry about everything!

I couldn't avoid having her out to play last night, she'd had a night in the night before so we were both keen for her to come out and play - I tried to avoid touching her too much or breathing over her, and washed my hands thoroughly, but there's not much you can do is there?

This morning she came out as usual for her porridge, she looked bright enough (sometimes she staggers out half asleep looking like she's been dragged through a hedge backwards) and she ate 2/3rds of her porridge (she always saves a bit for later) and pouched the bit of apple I'd put in the bowl.

Then she came up on her little platform by her door, again quite normal, but she made three funny little noises. I don't know how to describe them - sort of like squeaks, but when she made the first noise at first I was scared she was sneezing and had got my cold! Then when she did it twice more, I was watching her carefully - and she did not move at all, like I thought she would if she was sneezing - didn't shake her head or body at all.

I had a little chat with her and asked what was up, and she looked at me for a few moments, then grabbed some loo roll and ran back to bed, which again is quite normal in the mornings.

So, I am really hoping she wasn't sneezing - but I have never heard her squeak so loud before.

I wondered if she wasn't sure it was me? My voice had gone all croaky and I probably smelled funny, as I had covered myself in Vicks when I went to bed!

My sister checked on her later and she had been out for the rest of her porridge, and I put her fresh veg in a while ago and she has been out and cleared her bowl, so I assume she must be feeling OK?

Sorry this is a bit of a ramble but I have just been worrying while I was at work today!

Could be sneezes, but she is just as likely to sneeze because there is Vicks all over the place than because she has caught your cold! Keep an eye on her, I would avoid handling her at all actually unless she really will go crazy shut up in her cage and just check if she gets subdued or develops further symptoms. I don't think 3 isolated sneezes r a cause for concern but I see u you're worried! She could just have got some dust up her nose

Thanks for your reply herbi7! I've heard no more noises from her and the more I think about it, the less I think she was sneezing! She didn't come out to play last night because she got up too late, which was a bit of a relief in a way - she had a very energetic playtime the night before so maybe she felt like a night in anyway. I did here her frequently during the night (she lives in my bedroom) so I know she was very active.

So hopefully I was worrying over nothing!
