Talkative little dude..
Has anybody had a talkative Ham?
I'm trying to suss out my newest little dude, Miyou. On the first day home I got hissed at a lot. However that seemed to have stopped until today when I told him its not treat time. He glared at me, hissed and went in his wheel.
Miyou's ears weren't back, not exactly aggressive type looking behaviour
I was also talking to him today, and he was making little squeaky type noises along with some soft whistles. He continued these while washing, however when I went to leave he stopped. He's done this a few times.
Does anybody know what these might mean? I'm certainly confused.

Re: Talkative little dude..
Squeaking is perfectly normal when a ham is in a new home. He's just settling in and is probably just stressed out by the whole experience of moving home and the new environment. I'm sure he will soon settle down, once tamed.

Re: Talkative little dude..
Mine are both quite talkative, Nibble in particular has a squeak for everything, happy, annoyed, put me down, and Glowy isn't quite as vocal but still does a fair few squeaks when he's excited. So long as they're not poorly or hurt and it's just their personalities, it's very cute! The hissing will go as he gets more confident I'm sure.

Aha thank you.
I've never had a hammy hiss, squeak nor talk to me unless they're in pain. So it was a bit confusing when I was greeted with a load of noises!

I know sometimes Tyrion will chirp in his sleep, but I always assume its a nightmare (since he's done it from day one and I've checked for any signs of illness in the meantime). I've never had a talkative hamster either, otherwise lol

Re: Talkative little dude..
I've only have 2 vocal hams, one is my syrian female and the other is my robo Bacon. My syrian would always make a munching sound when I give her the food she likes, it's like a soft sound people make when munching on something sticky. She also would sound out when I wake her up suddenly, so I assumed it's her 'annoyed' sound accompanied by some vibrating sniffing thingy.
My robo on the other hand only have the mad squeak when I got him. He would do it when I pick him up during taming session, lol. Now he's gotten over it.

haha, Tequila did that this morning. Im not usually home this time of day and she was chirping in her sleep, I thought she was hurt or trapped or something. She wakes up when she smells me next to the cage. She woke up, stuck her nose out and slowly crawled out of her nest looking much like I do when Im woken. Then glared at me because I didnt have food or treats to hand!
But she is a very very talkative little madam, she chirps and squeeks (for want of better word) at anything and for anything.

If he's just getting used to you, give him some time. We used to sing a little song to ours and it became a familiar sound and he liked it It was the Timmy Time song with the name changed to Charlie. And talk lovingly to him - I'm sure he's just needing time to get used to you.
