Pulling Poop Out and Stacking it Neatly

Hello!

My Syrian hamster, Tyrion, has had a very weird habit since I got him. He's too lazy to poop naturally, so he waits until it's kind of out and then he finds his specific potty spots around the cage and stacks the poo neatly in a pile (of course snacking on one or two haha). When I used to have a cage, he would toss the poo out the bars. Little punk.

Anyone else have hamsters like this?

LOLOLOL. Hello Tyrion Hammister. Your Tyrion is just being a normal hamster. They all do that. Some are expert flingers and will flip the poop out of the cage. Also, hamsters engage in coprophagia, or, eating their poop. There is actually a certain kind of poop, and they know which one it is, that they have to eat. It needs to be digested twice for them to get the nutrients. I know it sounds gross, but it doesn't bother them at all. Hope this helps.

Okay, I did read something about this before but I wasn't one hundred percent sure if it was normal for them to be so consistent in pulling their poo out!

Lol I thought Nibble had no poo habits until the other day when I was checking through his cage for stashed veggies, and found a neat pile of poo behind his bamboo tunnel lol! I'm not surprised though, he is a very neat ham!

I think it's quite fun for them pulling it out - and very neat and organised, as hammies can be! (When they're not having fun flinging poop!). Ours stopped putting his poop in his food bowl when he was a few months old. They keep it in case there's ever a food shortage so they can eat it if there's nothing else or they think they need it. So check he's getting enough food in his bowl and the odd veg supplement every other day (I'm sure you do). I put a fingernail sized piece of veg out for Charlie most days, in a separate place to his food bowl so he has to go and find it (in his sputnik).

P2 does this poop pulling out and filing neatly too. Makes it easier for us to spot clean, doesn't it?
