Default Dwarf V Syrian!

Hi, I've only ever had syrians, at the moment i just have Pickles. I was thinking about getting a dwarf hamster at some point but wondered, as i was warned by pets at home that these are harder to tame and harder to handle. I did quite well taming Pickles, she'll play and cuddle with me forever now but are dwarf hamsters as friendly?

If someone with experience could talk to me about them it would be appreciated!!
thanks

I have and had only one dwarf, winter white. I took my time taming him and now he can be handled (with some gloves on still) without freaking out. He just loves exploring and is not very cuddly (still young, 3 months old soon). And he still likes to bite when my hand is in his cage... But he is just so cute and i cant wait to let him out every night to play with him and watch him explore He can be fast but usually you can see which direction he is taking and stop him from running/falling away. I suggest you wait for some more experience from more experienced breeders for example. This dwarf is from a pet shop and i think that is why he is not used to handling by humans.

I must be the only person who's found Robo's easier to tame than Syrians... My first Syrian was a grumpy one. He wasn't a biter but screamed everytime I picked him up. As for my current one, it's still early days yet but she'll take food from me and let me stroke her.

The Russians I saw at my local Pets at Home were not nice, one staff member was trying to get one for a customer and I could hear this buzzing noise coming from it. Quite a noise for such a tiny animal. According to her most of the Russians they had in stock at the time were like this.

I did hear that Russians and WW's are harder to tame, but it's not impossible. I've heard that Chinese Hamsters (not technically a dwarf ham but still small) are really nice.

My Robos are pretty tame, but not for sitting and cuddling with as they are like hyperactive children overdosed on sugar! It takes time though as they are quite jumpy when on the move.

I've only ever had one hamster and he's a dwarf russian WW looking P@H hybrid and he has been the tamest, loveliest little boy ever. He's never screamed at me, only ever squeaked once but that was cos he didnt enjoy me inspecting his scent patch!! (it was like a little "WHOA WHOA WHAOAAA whaddyathinkYOURdoing squeak )

He's only drawn blood once but it was partially my fault. I can put up with the nibbling but he rarely does that now. He's amazing with strangers too, will happily sit in other people's laps/hands and groom and never nibbles them. Maybe I've just been lucky!

My WW is the cutest squishest hamster ever. She did take me a long time to tame, but shes never bitten me. (unlike my campbells, its bitten me and drawn blood, without giving it a reason to do so!) hes sister useto squeak, but she squeaked all the time, when running on her wheel, and sleeping etc... she was very friendly also. And they wer both from P@H out of the adoption centre.

Dwarf squish!! lol I would reccomend a WW

I personally prefer Syrians over any others.
I don't know why, i've always wanted to own a smaller hamster and who knows, maybe I will do one day but untill then I won't be able to choose fairly between the breeds as i've only ever owned Syrians.

I'm a Syrian person, after having 4 psychotic dwarfs in the past. However I was so much younger then, I didn't really know what I was doing. Next time I have an empty cage, I really want to try having Robos
