Unhappy Help Please Hugo not eating

Hi I am worried about Hugo. I adopted him on Wednesday last week and has only eaten a couple of sunflower seeds and two little bits of carrot, he won't eat anything else.

Also he is shaking all the time and just hides from anyone. I have given the sunflower seeds and he has taken a couple from me, but I am worried. What do I do? He used to run quite often on his wheel now he doesn't and just wants to hide. If notices someone is about he runs in his box and starts shaking.

Please help, I noticed he is a little on the skinny side too.

Maybe try moving his food dish to a sheltered area near his nest. This might help him relax. Also, try adding more hideouts in his cage so he can always hide when he needs to.

You could check his teeth or get a vet to do it. At least that would rule out the possibility of that being the problem.

Good advice from WannaHamster, you've not had him long and he'll still be feeling nervous, so he might be feeling a bit exposed where the dish is. Bendy bridges make excellent hideouts.

He does still need time to settle so do as the other say & make sure he has lots of places to hide away & can reach his food without feeling too exposed.
Take your time with taming, go really slow & let him build his confidence.
Are you feeding the same food he was having before you adopted him? If you're not sure it might be an idea to check in case a change of diet has upset him at all.
