Always sleeping?
Greetings,
I've recently got a new syrian hamster, for he first few days, she had been very active, playing her wheel, running on the flying saucer, climbing the cage etc... Its just that recently she had been sleeping quite a lot waking up only to eat and walk a bit then returns to her nest and sleep.
Its just that the weather recently too, have always been raining and I think its quite cold and that is why she's been sleeping even duirng the evening and night.
Once, i woke up to find she buried herself under her bedding which she piled it up. Is this alright? because before this she is very energetic.
I inspected her at a safe distance, that her ears are all open and not folded, her tail is also clean. I assume she doesn't have a disease of some sort.
Is this normal? for them to always sleeping when its cold.
Should I keep her warm? what are the ways and suggestions.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Always sleeping?
Provided the room is a reasonable temperature & she has lots of substrate & nesting material she should be warm enough, they do sometimes sleep more when it's colder & burring themselves quite deep down in the substrate is normal too so I wouldn't worry too much but do continue to keep an aye on her to be sure she's eating, drinking ok & no showing any signs of illness.
Young hams are usually very active but she may be more active at night than you realise & they can change their routine a bit sometimes, if she's still settling in she may have got over the initial excitement of exploring her new home & be adjusting to things a bit, so just see how she goes.

Re: Always sleeping?
She may just wake up when you're asleep, my hamster has got into a bit of a routine now where he wakes up and knows its playtime before i go to sleep around 11pm, whereas when I first got him and he wasn't use to my own routine, he would wake up around 1-2am and still be awake when I woke up around 8am, and then sleep the rest of the day. I doubt she's over sleeping, just awake when you're not!

Re: Always sleeping?
It's ok to worry, we're all guilty of it.
The weather can be funny and it can affect the way they sleep, eat and play.I find this with my 2 but, I just keep a close eye on them. I think your ham is a nighter who waits till you've gone to bed.
