Question Talking to each other??

Hey everyone i'm wondering if its possible for two hamsters, syrians to be exact, to talk to each other? i'm wondering because during playtime tonight my female ham - who is vocal sometimes - was being very vocal while in her cage and then my elderly male ham started 'talking' but only after he'd heard her. Is it possible they were 'talkin to each other? I've never heard my male 'talk' before and i've had him for nearly 2 years.Any answers greatly appreciated

I don't know if they talk in words or not but they certainly will be aware of each others' presence nearby. They may have been warning off the interloper by making noise to define their territory or location. Or your female is in heat and they were letting each other know where they were so they could find each other!
