Default Bringing the little one home?

I have found a trusty breeder and i cant wait to get my dwarf hamster from him only problem is , he lives 30 minutes away! Its already enough stress being moved from her/his cage ( that they will have lived in there whole life ) but them traveling for half a hour! i know that they get stressed very easily. I already have a travel case with a good amount of bedding and i am planning to bring a blanket so i could drape it over to cover her/him from the stressful surroundings? I really need help with this so any help would be great

Thirty minutes isn't long at all, a good travel cage with plenty of substrate to burrow down into, maybe a piece of cucumber is you don't have a water bottle in there & maybe scatter a little food into the substrate to distract your new baby a bit, that's all you need really.
I wouldn't cover it with a blanket, I don't think it's necessary & it'll impede ventilation.

I put a couple of little houses in my travel cage, and hid bits of food all over the place in the substrate, which kept Charlie occupied digging and foraging. He liked the little hay house best because he could get right inside in the dark. A small cardboard box with a door cut out would do the trick (they hay house is just a cardboard box with hay stuck on the inside and outside. I hid a monkey nut as well as some food in the substrate and he just sat in the house cracking his nut and then went to sleep. Put as much substrate in as you can, and some paper bedding. Yes a blanket is a good idea. Here's a photo of Charlie's pet carrier set up and him in it (he was only in there while I was cage cleaning).

Don't do what I did, bringing Pook home. I spent a few minutes wondering where he had escaped on the ride home....took some digging in substrate to find the critter...who had hunkered down and been vewy vewy qwiet due to all the commotion.

Once I found him , he was already crawling all over me before I could get him back to his cage

Aw that sounds lovely, him crawling all over you! Yep make sure it has a lid that closes well! I didn't have a pet carrier when I picked Charlie up - they told me they provided little cardboard boxes - I took one look at them and thought, no way! The pet shop owner said it is best to bring the cage in as sometimes they escape from the little cardboard boxes. They didn't sell pet carriers there, so I went back the next day with the larger base rotostak unit from the Space Command unit I had bought (and got rid of 3 weeks later because it was unsuitable!). It was kind of the size of a large pet carrier but had an external wheel on it. Charlie was whizzing round in the wheel as soon as he was in it, in the middle of the day. Whizzing round in the wheel all the way home in the taxi (it was only 5 minutes away). And spent the next few days whizzing round his wheel. I don't think he had ever seen a wheel before.

I brought mine home in a double layered cardboard box and he'd chewed his way out by the time I got home - only about 10 minutes. Trying to reverse onto the drive while holding a lively hamster was rather tricky! Make sure he's in something there's no chance of getting out of

You've got a travel case and this will be fine, try and get some of the woodshavings from his birth home and put in with the woodshavings in his travel case. Half an hour isn't long if you have the right case, which you do. Good Luck xx
