Hamster obsessed with eating glue?
Hey, guys!
Before you say anything, no, I'm not purposely feeding my Russian dwarf glue. I like to build him toys and use non-toxic glue to stick some parts together. As soon as I put in one of the objects, he'll immediately start munching on the glue. This lasts about 2 minutes, and then he loses interest. I haven't seen him try to eat it after, only when he gets something new.
Is this really bad for him? Should I take the glued toys out?

Don't know what's in the glue, and don't know if the hamsters are eating it, or nibbling on it and eventually spitting it out.
I do know that in Kindergarten, I ate a LOT of paste, during art classes.....

Re: Hamster obsessed with eating glue?
I think some glue is fishy - made from fish bones boiled down? Maybe that's it. As long as its water soluble, but I suppose too much could make him ill. Sounds like you need plastic toys!

I'm not sure if he's spitting it out or not. All I can tell is that he's definitely chewing on it

Re: Hamster obsessed with eating glue?
Explains so much Skeever
It's probably not too much of a problem if he's not ingesting too much and it's non-toxic. I'd say it's probably spat out eventually as well, it can't taste nice. Maybe take a little piece of card or paper and just scrape off those little extra bits of glue before they set in future if you're worried?
A lot of hams seem to chew plastic cage bases and not ingest it, I'd say this is the same sort of thing.

Re: Hamster obsessed with eating glue?
Hi there, these toys are made especially for small pets, so I'm pretty sure the glue will be safe, especially when the makers of these toys know that all small pets like to chew, so I wouldn't worry about it. You said he only chews it a short while and loses interest.
