Default This is Either Disturbing? Or Heartwarming.....?

I think Pook just peed AT me. Again.

I just discovered he has begun peeing on the second floor of his cage, which is plastic flooring. The top comes off from above, so it can be an open second floor.

I thought I saw a spot, and sure enough, he had probably gone in a corner of the rectangle top part of the cage. After I cleaned it, a day or so later, I saw him come out to see me on the top floor, and sniff. They he ran back and forth frantically for a moment or two.....came back, turned his tail toward me.....squiggled....tail went up.....and.....

I didn't take it personally.

Spot cleaned it, and put some chewables there. Which he can move if he wants it as a pee corner. I'd prefer he didn't....hehe.....

Today, I had the cage out, and he was on the top floor. He came over, I said hello, pet him for a second, and as I closed the top of the cage he did his little frantic scamble for a minute, came to the corner where I was watching him.....SAT in a small food dish, and .....

Squiggle, squiggle.....tail up.....NOOOOOOO...... I opened it, he bolted, and I moved the food dish. He watched me wondering what was wrong. I closed the tank top.

He did his little pee dance, and ended up, once again, butt facing me....in the corner he just vacated......and .......the rest is history.....

I feel like I may have discovered a new hamster language concept! Or I have a deeply disturbed hamster. Or I did something wrong raising him.....or........

Anyone elses hamster pee in corners, bold as love, in their owners faces? And change the corner so its obvious? If it were his favorite spot I wouldn't think twice.....Pook was also a very, er.....liquid puppy the first week....back then I thought no ham pees that much, he's marking my hands.....

Is there a message here that I'm missing? Maybe he's saying "I want to be alone!" but thats an odd way of showing it. Considering most hams seems to like a bit of privacy for such things......and the little jig that he does, running back and forth first, to finally settle in for the actual event? If he's sending a message, I don't want to get the wrong one...LOL.

I'm still in shock

I prefer to think, in his twisted little hamster way, he's showing his undying love for me.

Sigh...........

I'm dying of laughter here! Don't take this the wrong way, but of all people to get a hamster like this, I'm glad it was you

How very....scientific...of you...... ROFL.....

If it were you, would you lean more towards finding it disturbing, or finding it heartwarming? I don't want to start thinking Pook is my heartham, only to discover he is giving me the hamster version of the finger

Also, to more correctly describe today's experience, now that I think about it.....when I saw him about to suddenly go in his food dish and/or my face.....he didn't bolt as in skittish, running away.....I did actually have to prod his wee butt off the food dish ....he was pretty insistent at that moment....which I suppose is understandable, but then again, I'm not a hamster. I mean it would be understandable to people....being interrupted as it were.....and we're not usually interrupted by a Giant Finger while using the loo.....

He's overall extremely skittish about the world, usually. Yet has no qualms about being cuddled to death. Which is an odd mixture.

I'm beginning to think one of us is crazy

Having never encountered such behaviour in a hamster before (mine are all suitably bashful about their bodily functions...unlike yours) I can only assume that he's very comfortable around you and can let it all hang out. Congratulations, you're married...or the nearest equivalent

...'let it all hang out....'

Did you have.to.phrase.it.THAT.way?

Pooky wants to know what 'suitably bashful' means. And why....

I wasn't aware there was another way to phrase it!

TBH, I'm not sure what "suitably bashful" means either. As I age I think I've discovered that it's highly age-dependant

You could have said, 'let his hair down' .....but you didn't ....you said, let it all hang out.....

In Pooky's case, this means things I cannot unsee......

Er, are we supposed to get more...or less bashful....as we age. Depending on the answer, I may or may not tell Pook.....
